Nearly 40 riders completed the almost 400-mile trip this past year, despite snow and unusually cold weather. We passed the $40,000 mark for fundraising! Our goal last year was $50,000 and it is not too late to give. It's easy to continue your support of CASA and the fantastic bike riders who cycled from Glacier to Yellowstone last September: simply click on the "Donate Online" link in the menu to the right and follow the instructions on the page.
Park-2-Park 2008:
Early in September , road bike riders came from across Montana, including Great Falls, Corvallis, Dillon, Bozeman, Whitefish, Butte, Billings, Kalispell, Missoula, Miles City and Big Timber, to participate in a cycling fundraiser for CASA of Montana and its 15 local programs. Court Appointed Special Advocates are volunteers who speak for nearly 900 children in Montana who are in the court abuse and neglect system through no fault of their own.
Park-2-Park 2008 riders included the owner of a KOA in Miles City, a Helena veterinarian and a physical therapist, as well as the recently retired head of the state municipal insurance association and the Gray Wolf Coordinator for Fish, Wildlife and Parks. A father and son duo from Helena were joined by a father and son-in-law from Arizona and Utah.
Bob Worthington, former mayor of Great Falls and retired insurance chief in Helena, has wanted to bike since the event began four years ago. “Now that I’m retired and I can do it, I’m real excited,” Bob said when signing up for the ride. The 64-year-old former executive successfully completed the 400-mile trip, earning recognition from his peers as the "Most Supportive Rider."
This year’s fundraising goal is $50,000 to benefit CASA of Montana and its 15 local programs.
Top corporate sponsors were ALPS insurance for lawyers at $2,500, the Montana Police Protective Association (MPPA) at $2000, and JCT Construction at $1,000. Gold Sponsors were Alan Nicholson of Great Northern, Mountain West Bank, First National Bank of Montana, St. Mary’s/East Glacier KOA and Hammer Nutrition.
Other sponsors included the Helena Bicycle Club, Pepsi, BlueCross BlueShield, New West Health Plans, Valley Bank and the Neighborhood Office. St. Mary’s/East Glacier KOA provided the headquarters for the beginning of the ride.
Local CASA programs, including CASA for Kids (Kalispell), Great Falls CASA CAN, Gallatin County CASA/GAL and 6th Judicial CASA in Livingston provided meals, snacks and support services for the riders as they rode through their areas. Local program directors, volunteers, and board members also provided statistical information and first-hand examples of the work CASA volunteers do for abused and neglected children around the state.
